Hinds Circuit Drug Intervention Court graduation set for March 1

February 25, 2022

The Hinds Circuit Drug Intervention Court will hold its 47th graduation ceremony at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March 1. The ceremony will be held on the second floor of the Hinds County Courthouse at 407 East Pascagoula Street in Jackson.

Circuit Judge Winston Kidd, who oversees the Hinds Circuit Drug Intervention Court, will preside. Hinds County Sheriff Tyree Jones will be the keynote speaker.

Those attending the ceremony are encouraged to wear masks and practice social distancing.

Judge Kidd said, “We are pleased to announce that 21 participants are expected to graduate on March 1. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments. These men and women now have the opportunity to become productive members of our society.”

The Hinds Circuit Drug Intervention Court became the second felony drug intervention court in the state of Mississippi when it began operation in 2000. There are now 42 intervention courts operating across the state, including felony court programs in each of the state’s 22 Circuit Court districts.

Intervention courts seek to rehabilitate drug-using offenders through drug treatment and intense supervision with drug testing and frequent court appearances. Intervention courts provide participants access to resources and opportunities they need by coordinating the efforts of the judiciary, prosecution, defense counsel, probation, law enforcement, treatment, mental health and social service providers. This offers participants the opportunity to become productive, law abiding citizens and reduces recidivism.
